OPINION Following a bench trial in the circuit court of Will County, defendant, Pamela Slater, was convicted of one count of permitting the sexual abuse of a child (720 ILCS 150/5.1 (West 2002)) and was sentenced to four years' incarceration. The appellate court reversed defendant's conviction and remanded the cause for a new trial. No. 3
